The James Barney Childcare Centre (situated on Norman Way) is open 8.30 - 16.00.

The Nursery Teacher and Nursery Manager work together with the staff team to provide a wealth of learning opportunities for the children to experience both in and outdoors. The nursery is based in the centre of town in a purpose built complex consisting of two buildings, a large outdoor area and seperate kitchen. Access is gained via a secure gate on Norman Way. The first building is an old school with a mezzanine floor. This building provides a variety of learning areas: some large, some small both in and outdoors. The outdoor environment is divided into different areas which include loose parts play, sensory pits, imaginary play and music and water walls. The second building, known as the cottage, also has a large outdoor play area and benefits from a canopy allowing free flow play in all weathers.

The nursery was awarded 'Good' in our latest OFSTED inspection in March 2022.

At our settings we use Tapestry which is a secure online learning journal which can be accessed via their website or an app. It allows us to record and share a child’s development, interests, learning and experiences through the use of photos, videos and written observations. We also use it as a platform to be able to share relevant documents, information with families such as upcoming events, setting information and invoicing. As parent/carers you are able to view and comment on the content we add and also share your own experiences and media from home too. All information is stored securely and can be downloaded or printed via the Tapestry website as a keepsake of the child’s journey with us.
